China Media: Death Toll Risen To 617 From A Strong Earthquake in Northwest of China

According to the state media reported on Thursday, the death toll from a huge earthquake in Northwest China, Qinghai Province risen to 617, with another 313 still missing.

Reported by China Central Television, there are about 9,110 injured of whom 970 were seriously hurt.

Due to many chinese people in the area who are affected by the strong earthquake, thousands of people spent a night without shelter in freezing temperatures following the 6.9 magnitude quake which hit mountainous Yushu county in Qinghai province, destroying almost all the houses in the local capital Jiegu.

All out efforts are being called by Chinese President to save as many people as possible, with more than 5,000 rescuers, including 700 soldiers, rushing to the disaster zone on the Tibetan plateau known as the "Roof of the World".
