Former WBC Champ Hasegawa Sufferred A Broken Jaw

According to media report, Hozumi Hasegawa, who lost his WBC bantamweight belt in a knockout by Mexican Fernando Montiel on Friday, has suffered a broken jaw, Shinsei Boxing Gym President Masato Yamashita said Saturday.
Hasegawa, 29, is scheduled to undergo surgery and is expected to be out of action for an extended period.

What was expected to be a classic fight turned out to be a blowout after WBO bantam king Fernando Montiel TKO'd WBC champ Hozumi Hasegawa in the fourth round minutes ago in Tokyo.

WBO bantamweight champion Montiel hit Hasegawa with a crushing left to the right side of the jaw in the dying seconds of the fourth round before the bout was stopped at Nippon Budokan.

The WBO champ proved to be the real man tonight, defeating the previously unbeaten WBC champ.
With the win, Montiel joins WBO welter champ Manny Pacquiao in the long list of real world boxing champions.

Hasegawa was trying to defend the title for the 11th straight time. Montiel successfully unified the title.
